The MUba Eugène Leroy
Set near the Grand-Place, the MUba Eugène Leroy bears the name of the Tourcoing-born painter who left his mark on post-war French art. Its collections combine old masters and contemporary exhibitions in a calm, clear setting. A museum date has something reassuring: you walk side by side, pause before the same canvases, and conversation flows naturally around a cup afterwards.
Le Fresnoy and the contemporary scene
At Le Fresnoy, the National Studio for Contemporary Arts, young artists present installations and films produced during their time at this unique French school. Wandering through its dimly lit halls, then unpacking it all over a drink, is a lovely idea for an original date. The Conservatory and city-centre concerts round out a dense cultural calendar.
The Maison Folie and the old streets
The Maison Folie hospice d’Havré, a former hospice turned creative venue, hosts concerts, residencies and performances. All around, narrow lanes recall the working-class memory of the town. Many end the evening on Rue de Lille, sharing a northern dish. On Lyad, Tourcoing singles share their cultural favourites; it is up to you to pick someone to enjoy them with.
